BRIEF HISTORY OF
DIVINE PROVIDENCE BAPTIST CHURCH

On Friday, May 1, 2015 a group of baptized believers met with Dr. Michael A. Griffin to organize them into a Baptist Church. Dr. Griffin expressed at that time he had no desire or interest in organizing a church and suggested that they go home and give this some prayerful consideration.

On Saturday, May 2, 2015, this same group asked Dr. Griffin if he would preach to this group Sunday morning at the Paul Harding High School, he accepted the invitation.

On Sunday, May 3, 2015, 52 people showed up for worship. After the sermon, the question again was asked if Dr. Griffin would organize them into a Baptist Church. He again expressed to them that he had no interest in organizing a church and he was considering returning home to Chicago. After much discussion on the matter Dr. Griffin encouraged them to fast and pray over the next to week to hear what God has to say, the people agreed.

On Sunday, May 17, 2015 we met at the Renaissance YMCA for worship, after the sermon a letter was presented to Dr. Griffin with 75 signatures expressing the desire to be organized into a Baptist Church. After much discussion and feeling the sincere love from the people, Dr. Griffin accepted the challenge and asked what the name shall be. It was suggested that the name shall be Divine Providence Baptist Church, the people agreed unanimously with an Amen.

For we live by faith,

not by sight.
